August 7 - August 10, 2019
10:00am - 5:00pm
If you understand twill drafting, you understand all drafting. Push the boundaries of your imagination with design and imagery, using twill as the foundation. Explore color, texture, materials, and techniques to visually express your story.
Students will be able to make a landscape, a still life, or even more interestingly do some collaging ('weaving in' photos, magazine articles, sticks, cut up posters, lace, cloth fragments, etc.), creating fiber art mementos within the tabby or twills. Each expression will be a small picture. You will see that from this kind of creative work, new ideas are born, and your own creative work will teach and inform you.
The class will begin with some ideas about our landscapes or portraits and our overall approaches to our creative work and begin to look at what we can accomplish in our creative work in four days. Students will review the essence of 4-harness twills and set up their warp by day two.
These exercises will teach you to wait, explore, enjoy, and to not be harshly critical of yourself, as you expand your scope of creation on the loom.
Materials students should bring: Special items, clothing, tokens, photos, yarns, etc. that you wish to weave into your story or memento.
Materials fee includes: 8/5 black linen warp, selection of donated materials for weaving, from EVFAC.
